MYTH: Kevin Sabellico lied about being an "educator" and "board member" on official ballot forms.

TRUTH: Kevin has been a Science Olympiad coach, a math tutor, and he was recently hired by the San Dieguito Union High School District as a Substitute Instructional Assistant. Since May, Kevin has held an active substitute teaching permit from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Kevin selected "Educator/Board Member" for his ballot designation and "Educator/Business Owner/County of San Diego Boardmember" for his occupation in his candidate statement. This was approved by the Registrar of Voters. Michael Allman sent the Registrar a letter threatening to sue her if she failed to disallow Kevin's ballot designation of "Educator/Board Member" in its entirety. When she did not, Allman filed suit against Cynthia Paes, the Registrar of Voters. The judge heard all the arguments and decided that since the school year had not officially started on August 9th (the day filing closed), the word "educator" did not meet statutory requirements. However, the judge ruled that the words "Board Member" described a "real and factual role held by Sabellico," and could remain as a valid designation. The judge commanded the Registrar to remove the word "Educator" from the ballot designation, but she ruled against Michael Allman on his challenge to the words "Board Member." Michael Allman lost 67% of his lawsuit, but he'll never tell you that part.

MYTH: Kevin Sabellico is a carpetbagger who didn't live in the District until running for School Board.

TRUTH: Kevin grew up in the San Dieguito Union High School District! He went to Canyon Crest Academy and served as School Site Council President. Even during his college years, Kevin maintained his voter registration in the San Dieguito School District, where he has voted in every single election.

MYTH: Kevin Sabellico only discusses partisan national politics.

TRUTH: Kevin has served in nonpartisan offices for the majority of his adult life, including his service as a City Planning Commissioner, School Site Council President, and now as a member of the County Environmental Health and Quality Advisory Board. Kevin has also served in partisan political roles, working for people such as Congressman Mike Levin, State Senator Catherine Blakespear, and current Vice President Kamala Harris. Kevin believes both partisan and nonpartisan politics are important, and they each have a place in our society. It's also notable that Kevin's opponent who makes this criticism, Michael Allman, ran for Congress (lost) and ran for the Republican Party Central Committee twice (lost both times).

MYTH: Kevin Sabellico leaked closed session information to damage his opponent, Michael Allman.

TRUTH: Kevin has never leaked closed session information, nor has he ever been privy to it in the first place. The SDUHSD Board of Trustees met in closed session on October 7th to discuss “significant exposure to litigation.” Weeks earlier, Encinitas resident Bob Ayers submitted a Public Records Act request for the full 500-page report from an independent investigator into Michael Allman's alleged harassment of Superintendent Cheryl James Ward.

As was written in the Times of San Diego, unconfirmed reports suggest the meeting on October 7th was about responding to this public records request. The meeting lasted several hours, and the Board President had nothing to report out at the conclusion of the meeting. The next week, the district responded to Bob Ayers claiming an exemption from the Public Records Act (meaning the district will not be releasing the full report). The original opinion column in the Times of San Diego accused Kevin of disclosing this information before the meeting on October 7th, but the Times retracted that portion of the column.
